Hello! I'm Ann, the author of this blog. I created this blog to show you guys the FlipTop Battle world and to introduce our clever rap artists here in the Philippines. I have a boyfriend who is fond of watching this kind of battle. He always ask me to watch it but I always refuse. To tell you guys, before, I really hate watching this kind of thing. But then I became interested to it when I watched the battle of Loonie and Abra Vs. Smugglaz and Shehyee. That time I became an avid fan of Loonie. At first, I'm only watching Loonie and Abra's battles until I discovered other battle emcees. I also influenced my girl friend and sometimes we try to be like the battle emcees that we've watched and then spit out the lines that we remembered.
Before us, many people were already engaged to FlipTop Battle. You can't blame them because it's very entertaining though battle emcees spitting out unpleasant words.
I know it's unusual for a lassie like us to become addicted to it but we really like it even though we have never watched it yet in live.
And here, I want you to know more about FlipTop..
What is FlipTop?
A few years back, FlipTop rap battles gained recognition in the Philippines quickly after several videos of such went viral on YouTube. Millions of Filipinos trouped to the popular video sharing website to watch two men test each other’s wit with rhythmic and clever lines delivered in an impressive tongue-twisting manner. The men also test each other’s tolerance for insults. FlipTop is sometimes described as a modern day Balagtasan.
According to www.goodfilipino.com, Fliptop is a rap battle league of two people in a match. They have to show mental alertness to insult each other a cleverest punch lines and sharpest rhymes.
In most competition formats, FlipTop has 3 rounds per battle and the winner is determined by a panel of judges.
Who was the founder of FlipTop?
The man behind the FlipTop league, no other than Anygma. By the way who is Anygma? The person who got the idea of applying some concept and format from Grind Time to the FlipTop.
Anygma said, "I'm aware of the talent here in the Philippines. I just put two and two together, like. So, if we have this kind of talent(rap), what would it take for it to work?"
Since the death of Francis Magalona in March 6, 2009, many people do not appreciate Hip-Hop anymore. But thanks to His apprentice who continued what He started. Looking at over 1M subscribers in the official channel of FlipTop, I guessed FlipTop is becoming it’s own environment suited the kind of entertainment it offers.
